Chapter 7

Isax couldn’t believe his outstanding luck. The male his clan had banished had been rewarded by fate and the gods. He needed to show his thanks less the gods take her away from him in spite. But he figured they would be benevolent enough to wait for him to thank them. He wanted to enjoy his time with his mate. Surely the gods couldn’t fault him for savoring this treasure.

Rising from the ground, he picked up their clothing and grimaced at her shredded shirt. He would get her another. Then he reached a hand down to her. She took it, allowing him to pull her onto her feet.

They’d spent the better part of the day rolling around pleasuring each other on the forest floor, and as much as he’d like to continue, he needed to get her back to the safety of his hut. “Let us get back to our hut. Night will fall soon, and I don’t wish to be out here when predators prowl the forest.”

“Agreed.” Brooklyn stepped up beside him. “Lead the way. I have no idea how to get back to… our hut from here. I’m a bit hopeless with the whole tracking and remembering my way back thing.”

Isax narrowed his eyes when he heard the hesitation in her voice as she spoke about their hut. He had yet to explain her importance to him. He would, but not right at this moment. First, he needed to get her back to his hut and then feed her. Then he would let her know. Because he suspected she didn’t have the mating bond like he did.

“You will learn.” Isax encouraged her. “It will take time to remember certain tree and rock formations, but you’re no doubt smart enough to learn everything you need.”

“Thank you.”

“I’m not complimenting you. Stating facts, Brooklyn.” Isax guided her over some branches that’d fallen to the ground during a recent storm. When he noticed her wince and shift her weight from one foot to the other, he swooped her up into his arm.

“Isax!” Brooklyn cried out in surprise as she wrapped her arms around his neck for support.

“I will carry you so you don’t injure your ankle more than you have to. Forgive me, I completely forgot about your injury doing our… rolling around on the forest floor.”

“If you handed over my clothing and shoes, I wouldn’t have to injure the soles of my feet. And in regards to my ankle, I think it’s been better.” Brooklyn shot back with absolutely no venom in her voice, just some easy going teasing.

Isax dipped his head to her shoulder and neck, inhaling deeply, drawing her scent deep into his lungs. She was intoxicating. So addictive. Then he pulled back ever so slightly and whispered in her ear, “We won’t need our clothing when we get back to the hut.”

“Oh?” Brooklyn asked with a raised eyebrow before laughing, letting him know she knew exactly what he meant.

The pleasant sound of her laughter washed over Isax, and he knew he’d purposefully find every reason to make her laugh for the rest of their lives.
